Thrust Plain Bearings

In this calculation, a thrust plain bearing with circulating lubrication and a steel-babbit friction pair is considered. The calculation was carried out based on the methodology for calculating marine plain bearings repeatedly confirmed by practical results.

The bearing design provides for 8 thrust pads covering 80% of the shaft crest area.

To perform the calculations, it is necessary to specify the diameter of the shaft neck d, diameter of the shaft crest D, axial load F and speed of rotation n. Depending on the size of the shaft crest, the axial clearance assumed to be between 1.2 and 2.5 mm in this calculation.

According to the results of calculations, the power P generated on the bearing support, and oil wedge thickness Y that should exceed the maximum deflection of the shaft crest under load, are determined.
