One-bolt Clamp Tightening

In this calculation, a bolted clamp attached to a shaft with a diameter D is considered. The shaft is under the action of torque T and kept from slipping by the frictional force generated by the torque of the fastening bolt, located at a distance l1 from the shaft axis. As a result of calculations, the tightening force F ensuring the operability of the connection is determined.

For the calculation, the friction coefficient of the contacted surfaces μ and slot dimension b (look at figure) should be specified.

The tightening torque of the thread can be calculated here.

INITIAL DATA

D - Shaft diameter;

l1 - Distance from the shaft axis to the bolt;

b - Distance from the shaft axis to the slot end;

T - Torque;

μ - Coefficient of friction on the clamping surface.

RESULTS DATA

F - Tightening force.
