Knife-Edge and Plate Edge Contact

In this calculation, a contact of the knife-body across the edge of the flat plate with a thickness t is considered.

A body with a sharp edge is under a load F, which is transmitted to the edge of the plate of thickness t through the contact zone. As a result of calculations, contact stresses σ are determined at any point of the contact zone, which is given by the distance from the cutting edge L and the angle α of rotation relative to the line of the load action.
