Tube Under External Concentrated Load

In this calculation, a tube with a mean diameter D, length L, and wall thickness t is considered. The tube is under the influence of a force of magnitude F, concentrated on a small area and acting perpendicular to the tube axis. For the calculation, the elastic modulus E of the pipe should be specified.

As a result of calculation, the maximum stresses σ in the load application zone are determined. The total strain X is also calculated, which is the deflection of the deformed tube from the cylindrical surface.

INITIAL DATA

D - Mean tube diameter;

L - Tube length;

t - Wall thickness;

F - Concentrated load;

E - Young's modulus;

Calculation conditions:
0.5 < L/D < 9;
D/t > 20.

RESULTS DATA

σ - Maximum bending stress;

Х - Local deflection of the tube wall in the radial direction.

BASIC FORMULAS

Maximum stress (near the point of the load):

σ = 2.4F / t2;

Tube deflection in radial direction:

X = 6.5*(F/Et)*(D / 2t)1.5 * (2L / D)-0.75
