Bracket Bolts Under Bending Load

In this calculation, a bolted bracket of length L fixed to the base with n bolts is considered. The location of the bolts is determined by the distance l1 from the pivot point to the first bolt and the distance l2 between the bolts.

A load is applied to the edge of the bracket at a distance H from the base, with shear component F1 and tensile component F2 (look at figure).

The bracket is assumed to be absolutely rigid in the calculation. As a result of calculations, a tensile and shear components PH, PK of the total load acting on any fastening bolt, determined by a serial number k from pivot point is found. To calculate tensile forces and equivalent stresses in bolts taking into account the tightening torque and friction forces, the obtained load values should be entered into the program for calculation of a threaded connection tightening.

INITIAL DATA

n - Number of bolts in one row. The calculation is performed when the bolts are located in one row;

l1 - Distance from pivot point to the first bolt;

l2 - Distance between bolts;

F1 - Shear load on the bracket;

F2 - Tensile load on the bracket;

L - Bracket length;

Н - Shear force lever;

К - Serial number of the bolt (from pivot piont).

RESULTS DATA

PH - Component of tensile load on the bolt;

PK - Component of shear load on the bolt.

Number of bolts (n)

Distance to first bolt (l1)

Distance between bolts (l2)

Shear load (F1)

Tensile load (F2)

Serial number of the bolt (k)

Tensile load on the bolt (PH)

Shear load on the bolt (PK)

BASIC FORMULAS

Tensile load on bolt:

Рнi = F1*H*li / ∑li 2 + F2*L*li / ∑li 2;

li - distance from bolt to pivot point;

Shear load on bolt:

РK = F1 / n.
